The Constitution of The 1889ERS Society, Inc.

THE CONSTITUTION

of

THE 1889ERS SOCIETY, INC.

ARTICLE I - Name

This Society shall be known as "THE 1889ERS SOCIETY, INC." and the members thereof known as 18S9ERS.

ARTICLE II- Object

The object of this Society shall be to perpetuate the history and traditions of Pioneer Days and create a feeling of friendship among its members and extend the hand of fellowship to each and every 1889ER on all occasions possible.

ARTICLE Ill - Land Boundaries

The boundaries of the "Oklahoma Unassigned Lands" are: The North boundary coincides with the old South line of the Cherokee "Strip; the East boundary is the Indian Meridian; the South boundary is the South Canadian River; the West is bounded by the Cheyenne-Arapahoe Country. This area is shown in the map on the opposite page.

ARTICLE 1V - Persons Eligible

Section 1. Any person of good moral character who became a resident of the "Unassigned Lands of Oklahoma" from April 22, 1889, through December 31, 1889, or a lineal descendant of any person who became a resident of the "Unassigned Lands of Oklahoma" during this period of time, shall be eligible for membership.

Section 2. (A) - Any proven descendant of an 1889ER shall be eligible for membership in the Society by subscribing to the Constitution & Bylaws.

(B). A Junior membership shall be provided for children of 1889ERS up to l8years of age. This membership allows all the privileges of the Society except that of voting.

Section 3. An Associate member is defined as a person who is married to an 1889ER or a lineal descendant and may enjoy all the privileges of the Society.

Section 4. An 1889ER booster is defined a person who is not eligible for membership under Sections 1, 2 (A), or 3 of this Article but wishes to affiliate with the Society in support of its goals stated in Article II who may enjoy all the privileges of the Society.

Section 5. Application for Membership - Application for membership shall be (a) made In writing, (b) contain all data of settlement in Oklahoma, (c) be recommended l~y 1 member In good standing, (d) be passed upon~y the membership committee, (e) be voted upon by members at a regular meeting.

Section 6. A three fourth vote of members present and voting shall be necessary to elect an applicant for membership. Voting shall be by ballot when requested.

ARTICLE V - Officers

Section 1. The Officers of this Society shall be a President, two Vice-Presidents, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, Historian and five Directors. These 13 Officers shall comprise the Executive Board. They shall be nominated by a Nominating Committee and elected at the April meeting and Installed at the Annual Meeting in May.

Section 2. The regular term of office shall begin at the adjournment of the Annual Meeting at which they were Installed and be for one year or until their successors have been elected.

Section 3. It shall be the duty of the President to preside at all meetings of this Society, at all meetings of the Executive Board, and be ex-officio member of all committees and boards hereinafter created except the Nominating Committee and to perform such duties as pertain to the office.

Section 4. A - The Vice-Presidents In their order of rank shall in the absence of the President, assume the duties of that office.

B - First Vice President is also Program Committee Chairman.

C - Second Vice President is also Membership Committee Chairman and presents the names of applicants for membership.

Section 5. The Recording Secretary shall keep the minutes of the regular meetings and of the Executive Board meetings. Keep a file of all membership applications, their current addresses and telephone numbers, consult the Treasurer for any change in membership status before compiling the Annual Year Book, assume responsibility for getting out said Year Book and issue notices as directed by the President.

Section 6. The Corresponding Secretary shall mail

cards to the Ill or bereaved members and assist the

President in the furtherance of the work of the

Society.

Section 7. The Treasurer shall take charge of monies, collect dues, notify members in arrears,

pay bills authorized by the Society and co-signed by either the President, Vice President or Secretary, and keep an itemized account of receipts and disbursements. The Treasurer shall make a report at every meeting and shall be bonded, the fee therefore paid by the Society.

Section 8. The Parliamentarian shall be informed regarding the Rules of Order, giving rulings when requested and be able to cite authority for same and conduct the Annual election of officers.

Section 9. The Historian performs a valuable service to the Society by assembling and preserving a record of its activities and achievements, and shall act as Custodian of all records and other material pertinent to the history, such records and material being the property of Society and shall compile and maintain a record of currents events and activities to be presented in the form of an Annual Scrap Book.

Section 10. The Executive Board may act in any emergency that the President may deem necessary in the interval between the regular meetings of this Society, or when any contingency arises that will admit of no delay.

Section 11. A Nominating Committee of 5 members shall be elected at the March meeting, present a slate of officers at the April meeting.

Section 12. Standing Committees shall be: Auditing, Banquet, Banquet Reservations, Banquet Tickets, Finance, flowers, Hospitality, Museum Trust, Museum, Program, Telephone, Trust and Legacy and Visitation. These committees shall remain active until they have been released.

ARTICLE VI- Meetings

Section 1. All regular meetings shall be held each month beginning with October and ending with the Annual meeting In May.

Section 2. Special meetings: The President is authorized to call a special meeting at any time after 3 days communicating notice.

Section 3. The Executive Board shall be subject to the call of the President.

Section 4. A quorum of the Society shall be fifteen (15), and a quorum of the Executive Board shall be seven (7).

ARTICLE VII- Colors

The colors of this Society are green and white.

ARTICLE VIII- Flower

The flower of this Society is the White Rose.

ARTICLE IX - Motto

The motto of this Society is: "An effort to make others happy lifts us above ourselves".

ARTICLE X - Emblem

The emblem of this Society shall be the figures

1889ERS.

ARTICLE XI

The Constitution may be amended at any regular meeting by a two-thirds vote of all members present, the proposed amendment having been submitted in writing at a previous regular meeting.
