Discovering Your Family in Frontier Neighborhood Maps Print E-mail
"Discovering Your Family in Frontier Neighborhood Maps" is the topic of speaker Gregory A. Boyd, J.D., to be presented at the February 6, 2006 general meeting of the Oklahoma Genealogical Society.

Mr. Boyd plans to discuss how "mapping first land-owners in the 29 public-land states may unveil countless clues to many familiesâ?? histories. Maiden-name possibilities leap from these maps, as well as friends and individuals from related families who migrated together across our great nation. Mapping these land-patents on your own, though rewarding, is neither for the fainthearted nor the researcher without loads of spare time. Gregory A. Boyd will explain his â?œFamily Mapsâ?? project which does the mapping for you and that will ultimately result in county-by-county land-patent maps being produced for most of the public-land states (including much of Oklahoma). More particularly, Boyd will explain how family historians can use these powerful tools to learn more about their ancestors, their relationships with others, and the lands where they
lived."

The Oklahoma Genealogical Society general meetings are held each month at 6 pm in the Auditorium of the Oklahoma Historical Society, 2100 N. Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma City. Volunteer genealogists will be available at 5 pm to provide help with research questions.
